You
Can Read!
by
Brenda Thomas & Linda Bardof
Leading reading
authorities recommend the sequence followed in You Can Read! The
video format permits students to see, say, and hear, calling the
various senses into play. Students then combine letter sounds
into words and word families, and use them in sentences. As a
check for learners, the narrator pronounces all examples after
a short pause for student response.
Lessons
include alphabet and keywords, short vowels, long vowels, blends,
R-controlled vowels, digraphs, dipthongs, Y as a vowel, soft C
and G, prefixes and suffixes, patterns and exceptions, and syllable
division.
Cooperative
learning is encouraged as students practice together to apply
their new skills. This set also provides an important word analysis
component to a whole language program as students apply their
skills to the world around them - signs, magazines, newspapers,
and books.
